‘Green’
widget cycles into top spot and picks up $5000 First Prize
London, UK and MWC, Barcelona – February 14th 2010- The OMTP has today announced the winners of its BONDI widget
competition. Seven winners in total were selected by a panel of mobile industry
judges with the $5000 top prize being awarded to a bike sharing application,
submitted by Italian developer Andrea Vitaletti, which informs the user of the
nearest bike sharing location.
“We were very pleased by the creativity of the
developers who entered our competition and were delighted to have submissions
from all over the world,” said Tim Raby, Managing Director OMTP “The winning BONDI
widgets were selected based upon their usability and functionality. Due to its
truly open environment we look forward to seeing many more widgets being
developed as BONDI continues to progress throughout 2010.”
The seven winning
widgets are:
- Bike Sharing – Andrea Vitaletti
, Italy - How
far is the closest bike sharing station from my current position? How many
bikes are there? A widget exploiting BONDI API, Google Maps and
AJAX. It currently works on the bike sharing services in Rome, but
it can be easily extended to support other locations and sharing services
(e.g. car-sharing).
- Jogg-O-Mat
– Christian Fuhrhop, Germany - Jogg-O-Mat can be used when jogging around laps.It
determines when a lap has been completed and shows (for subsequent laps)
whether the jogger is faster or slower than on the best, the last and an
average lap.
- Geosurfer
– Lukas Schmidt, Germany -
How far is it to the next surfing beach? How do I get there?
- Golf
Buddy - Mark Colley, UK - This
Widget uses a BONDI enabled handset to measure the distance of a golf
shot.
- Combo
Widget – Ravindra Dudda – India - A widget that uses many BONDI APIs such
as messaging, calendar, contacts etc. to provide a basic phone user
interface
- Zhiing
- Michael Ayles – USA - zhiing Chat is a send-to-mobile / send-to-email
widget. It enables the user to send their location to a phone or
email address and have an IM-like conversation with existing zhiing users.
- Quiz
- Richard Wilson - UK - Help Sir Quizalot rescue the fair maiden by
answering the trivia questions correctly!
Winning widgets will be demoed by
the OMTP during this week’s Mobile World Congress in Barcelona. If you would like to view some of the winning
